5 Hiking routes near Palma


Here are five recommended trails, with different levels of difficulty, all easily accessible from Palma.


1. Serra de Na Burguesa / Puig d’en Bou


Located between Palma and Calvià, the Serra de Na Burguesa is perfect if you want something nearby but with great views of both the sea and the city. The climb up Puig d’en Bou (≈ 503 m) offers panoramic views of the Mediterranean and Palma Bay.

Distance: between 6 and 10 km, depending on the chosen route.
Duration: 2 to 3 hours.
Difficulty: moderate.
Tip: Wear good hiking shoes, bring plenty of water and sun protection (it can get windy at the top). How to get there: by car or taxi from Palma, around 20–30 minutes, with clearly marked starting points.

2. Biniaraix Gorge (Barranc de Biniaraix)


This scenic route winds through traditional terraced landscapes and dry-stone paths following the stream bed of the gorge. It’s a hike full of charm and history.

Distance: around 6 km (round trip).
Duration: about 3 hours.
Difficulty: moderate (some gentle slopes).
Why go: Mediterranean vegetation, rural landscapes and a true sense of authentic Mallorca. Tip: Start in the village of Biniaraix (near Sóller) or link it with other local trails.

3. Archduke’s Trail (Camí de l’Arxiduc - Valldemossa to Deià)


One of Mallorca’s most iconic routes, with spectacular views over the sea and the mountains. It was built in the 19th century by Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria to explore these stunning landscapes.

Distance: approx. 10 km between Valldemossa and Deià.
Duration: around 4 hours.
Difficulty: moderate.
Why go: sea viewpoints, oak forests, and historical stone paths. Recommendation: start early to enjoy cooler weather and morning light.


4. From Caimari to Lluc Monastery (Camí Vell de Lluc)


A hike that blends nature, spirituality and history. It begins in Caimari and climbs toward the famous Lluc Sanctuary, passing through pine and oak forests and traditional stone walls.

Distance: about 8 km (one way).
Duration: around 2 hours uphill.
Difficulty: moderate.
Why go: Tramuntana landscapes, local flora and peaceful corners. Pro tip: you can take the bus down from Lluc to Caimari if you prefer not to walk back.

5. Coastal route from Sant Elm to Estellencs

A more ambitious trail that combines mountains and coastline. It runs from Sant Elm to Estellencs, crossing elevated paths with incredible sea views.
 

Useful info:

 
Distance: around 20–25 km (depending on the route).
Duration: 6 to 8 hours.
Difficulty: medium to high.
Why go: dramatic cliffs, changing landscapes and the chance to hike in sections. Recommendation: bring food, plenty of water and plan for a full day with daylight.


Tips for autumn hiking in Mallorca

Always check the weather forecast - mountain weather can change quickly. Dress in layers: cool mornings, warm midday sun and possible wind at the top. Stay hydrated and pack energy snacks. Wear hiking shoes with good grip. Respect the local flora and fauna - stay on marked trails and leave no trace. Start early to enjoy the golden light and quieter paths.
